The park is a gathering place for the entire community. Roots and Rhythm Music and Arts Festival attracts thousands of people here in June and The Wayne County Creative Arts Council fills the park with people and music during their summer concert series in June and July. Please be sure to look beyond the eyesore of a fence that surrounds the monument and take notice of the fence inside that was the original deterrent to keep people from disturbing the statue. The original fence was built in the 1800's, fell into disrepair in 2017 and met its demise due to fear of a lawsuit, and was tossed in a scrap pile. Fortunately, a local volunteer historian and his wife retrieved the historic fence and spent a month of blood sweat and tears along with a great group of friends and donations restored it to its original beauty and placed it back inside the modern "ugly fence". Special thanks to Dave & Natalie Rickert and their friends for their dedication to preserve local history.
On the bronze tablet located on the front of the monument, it states who placed the monument there, write the first letter of the name of the group in space # 11 on your entry blank!
